I'm back

I returned yesterday from a wonderful 9-day pack trip in the southern Sierra Nevada. We travelled, mostly on the John Muir Trail, from South Lake to Onion Valley. I have lots of photos to post. Here’s one to get things started.

Away

After today I’ll be heading off to the Sierra for a long-awaited pack trip with my Talusdancers friends. Expect to see photos here after my return.

It's not about the ship

This photo was take from the upper level of SBC Park during today’s San Francisco Giants (vs. Rockies) baseball game. Not a bad view, huh?

The distant clouds are thunderheads building over the Sierra Nevada, perhaps 100 miles away.

I contemplate these things as I plan for a 9-day pack trip starting this weekend and debate whether to carry a tent or my bivy and a tarp…

A very quick hike…

As part of the run-up to my 9-day Sierra pack trip starting at the end of this week, I’m trying to hike every day – uphill when possible. We’re all going to a Giants game later this today so I went on a very early hike this morning. I climbed to a 1500+ foot ridge at Almaden Quicksilver Park, descended, and was back home before 10:00 am.
