Last Day of Summer…

… and it felt much more like fall today. It rained – which is a bit unusual for central California this time of year – and it was cool. I hiked at Almaden Quicksilver Park and walked through newly fallen autumn leaves and past meadows filled with golden dry grass. It sure didn’t feel like summer any more!

I started this blog back in 2002 or so for several reasons, including the following:

To archive and display photography from my outdoor adventures – mostly in California, but also in Alaska, The Yukon, and British Columbia. (These days my main photography web site is G Dan Mitchell Photography.)
To share stories from my hiking, backpacking, skiing and other trips.
To post and save links to interesting stories on the outdoors, the environment, and related topics.
To publish some information that I think might be useful to others, including my gear list (Equipage) and some trail guides (Trails) and trip descriptions.

NOTE:

This site is no longer actively maintained, though it is monitored. My “Dan’s Outside” website was very active some years ago, but I eventually transferred much of my online material to my photography website at http://www.gdanmitchell.com/.

For now the material on this site remains for archival purposes only. Eventually it may be removed.
