Feed snatchers?
***Whose web site is this anyway?
This site gets a few hundred visits per day. Recently I discovered that more people may be reading my content – but never coming to my site.
I’m a big user of RSS feeds. These provide quick links to new information at web sites that I find interesting. This site provides a feed – click on the XML button to subscribe. You’ll get an update when I post a new story or photo.
You will also probably come and visit this site to find out more.
It recently has come to my attention that some sites (e.g. – DesertMountains) publish the aggregated RSS feed in a format that removes the line
containing the link to my site, <a href="my copyright notice, posting date/time information, and discussion and trackback links.
DesertMountains appears to be supported by advertising links, generating hits and trackback, and ultimately income – none of which I ever see – from content that is not their own. Their presentation makes it appear that they are my publisher.
They are not.
dan’s outside is a separate and independent web site that is not associated with any other web site or publisher and which does not include any advertising.
If you enjoy viewing my site content via one of these feed aggregators I invite you to visit my site directly. While the RSS feed does publish new home page content it does not show you the rest of the site, including extensive sidebar links to other resources including photographs and some writing.
